Abstract In the course of designing complex machine configurations for production facilities a large number of issues have to be analysed. This paper describes the effect of control considerations, particularly the selection of processes based on the current demand and machine status in the facility. An example of a versatile, computerized manufacturing system is analysed to demonstrate how various dynamic process selection procedures affect machine utilization and production rates.
