Development of Vehicle Control Unit for an Extended-Range Electric Bus

A new vehicle control unit was designed for coordinating control problem for an extended-range electric bus using APU;This paper mainly studies on hardware and software design,multi-energy management and energy optimization control strategy.Using SOC logic gate limit control strategy of the state of charge of the battery pack,when battery SOC is lower than the threshold,APU open,playing the role of extended range.The uPD70F3380 32bit MCU made by Renesas Electronics company is used as core controller in the system,achieving Digital I/O,analog acquisition and CAN bus communication,multi-energy management and energy optimization control strategy and so on.Several working modes such as APU drive,hybrid drive,pure electric drive were tested,and vehicle control unit effectively improves the utilization of energy,proving the feasibility of the vehicle controller and the effectiveness of the control strategy.
