Spectrum Sharing in Cognitive Radio Networks

The limited available spectrum and the inefficiency in the spectrum usage necessitate a new communication paradigm to exploit the existing wireless spectrum opportunistically. This new networking paradigm is referred to as cognitive radio(CR) networks. In CR networks, one of the main challenges in open spectrum usage is the spectrum sharing. In this paper, we delve into the specific challenges for spectrum sharing in CR networks, overview the existing solutions and discuss open research areas.
