Application of trigonometric transforms in discrete multi tone systems

This paper proposes the application of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and/or the discrete sine transform (DST) in discrete multi-tone (DMT) systems in order to achieve higher bit rates. These transforms are used instead of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The performance of the DCT-DMT system with a minimum mean-squared error time domain equalizer (MMSE-TEQ) designed using the unit-tap constraint (UTC) over the eight standard carrier serving area (CSA), is investigated. The results show that employing the proposed DCT-DMT system rather than the conventional DFT-DMT system can provide a higher SNR in each subchannel, and can achieve higher bit rates.
