Distance learning on the World Wide Web: a review for academic librarians

ABSTRACT This article provides an overview of the impact of distance learning on academic librarians. It reviews the ways in which libraries and librarians are now involved with distance learning and discusses some of the future implications for libraries. An overview of the types of services offered by libraries to distance learners via the Web is included. Web sites featuring directories of online courses and other Web sites useful for librarians working with faculty are also given. The article also cites and reviews meta-sites for distance learning and other Web sites of interest to academic librarians.
