Neuroticism, self-consciousness and coping strategies, and occupational stress in high school teachers

Abstract The present study explored the role of three personality dimensions (extraversion/introversion, neuroticism and self-consciousness) as predictors of the stress experienced by secondary school teachers. Physical and psychological symptoms were used as measures of the occupation-stress relationship. The results indicated that neuroticism and subjective ratings of stress were predictors of reported symptomatology and that private self-consciousness may act as a moderator variable.
