LMDS in the broadband local loop-alternatives and issues

In this paper we look at two important issues in the design of a cellular structure for a local loop offering broadband services. Firstly, we describe how it is possible to use the local multipoint distribution system (LMDS) for distribution services with and without xDSL. Then, we combine the issue of multiple access and frequency planning into a conglomerate TDMA and CDMA system. We contend that by using TDMA within each cell and CDMA to divide cells not only the limitations of TDMA based systems can be overcome, but also the simplicity of its receiver design is preserved, We also present a cluster based channel allocation mechanism to reduce the interference.
