Real-time Ethernet Network Optimized for Communication between Automotive Electronics

This paper presents a new automotive network structure and protocol that are based on the most popular network, Ethernet, and optimized for communication between automotive electronics. There are a few industrial automotive networks such as LIN, CAN and FlexRay. However, previous works do not provide high throughputs to integrate the entire network for an automobile. Moreover, most of the related technologies are not released publicly. In order to increase the throughput and integrate the network elements efficiently, we apply the high-throughput and inexpensive Ethernet for the automobile and optimize the control algorithm of the network elements. The performance of the resulting network highly exceeds that of previous works.
