Cost-effective sustain driver for alternating current plasma display panel

Cost-effective sustain driver for an alternating current (AC) plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. It features a simple structure and low cost. As all power switches can be turned on with zero-voltage switching or turned off with zero-current switching, the switching losses can be reduced. An asymmetric current build-up scheme of the external inductor increases the flexibility in the rising time and the falling time of the panel voltage. Moreover, because sufficient energy is stored in the external inductors using build-up current, the voltage notch problem can be solved. The operation principle of the proposed circuit is presented in detail. A 32 inch AC PDP equipped with the proposed sustain driver is investigated.
