Calorimetric measurement of ac losses in superconducting cables of short lengths

The measurement of AC losses in superconducting cables by calorimetric means is necessary as a verification of electronic measurements on short high-current models and because the present method of electronic measurement is not applicable to longer cables with simultaneously applied high current and voltage. Consequently, after the first tests of Cable No. 101 showed higher losses than anticipated using the electronic wattmeter measurements, it was decided to attempt to verify these measurements calorimetrically. The results of tests completed to date are reported.
