A Comparison of Simulated and Observed Boundary-Layer Winds in an Area of Complex Terrain

Abstract The boundary-layer wind field in an area of complex terrain is simulated using an Objective analysis Model. Simulated and observed winds at several stations in the experimental area are compared quantitatively. Wind fields produced by the model am evaluated subjectively by considering whether they reproduce the essential characteristics of the flow in the area. The evaluation indicates that the model provides an accurate simulation of the wind field in the experimental area when the conditions for which the model was developed are satisfied.
