Functions of the hippocampal system

Abstract A wide variety of functions have been attributed to the hippocampus. Although the field has narrowed recently, the search for a straightforward, unitary theory is perhaps doomed to failure. As Arjun Sahgal points out in this article, the hippocampus has a large number of direct and indirect connections, and it is likely that it has a finger in many a functional pie.
