Modular hybrid transmission with an overrunning clutch

A vehicle transmission system having an internal combustion engine, an electric motor and a transmission includes a first clutch which is operatively connected between the internal combustion engine and the motor, and a freewheeling clutch. The overrunning clutch is connected in parallel to the first clutch, whereby an increase in the speed of the internal combustion engine is permitted when the clutch is disengaged until the internal combustion engine speed of the engine speed corresponds. The internal combustion engine provides a positive torque through the one-way clutch to the engine and transmission in alignment with the engine speed. The first clutch and the overrunning clutch can be a rocker hybrid-way clutch.
