140 GHz active imaging systems based on FMCW radar

The first experimental results of developing an original active imaging system based on a frequency modulated continuous wave radar (FMCWR) operating at 140 GHz are presented. The short-range (1 m) and long-range (1-30 m) prototypes of 2D and 3D FMCWR imagers utilizing different raster scanning techniques with a capability of tracking the absolute object distance and velocity are discussed. The imagers' performance applicable to the tasks of security and nondestructive material quality inspection is analyzed.
