Underwater acoustic communication channels are generally characterized as seriously time-space-frequency variant channels with strong multi-path interference, limited bandwidth, severe environment noise and Doppler effect. Taking into account the hostile transmission condition of underwater acoustic channel, underwater communication is one of the most challenging communication technologies. Frequency-Hopping underwater acoustic communication system is drawing more and more attention for its good performance under serious noise and multi-path interference condition. To a great extent, The performance of Frequency Hopping system depends on the the choice of pseudo random(PN) sequence. In this paper, chaotic sequence are investigated and their performance compared with the conventional PN sequences. Systems having chaotic behaviour can be noise like, broadband in nature and ergodic but as well deterministic. Chaotic sequence can therefore be used in underwater acoustic communication system.
