Geach and The Methodology of the Logical Study of Natural Language

In the many-splendored field of the logic and semantics of natural languages, Peter Geach occupies an interesting and unusual niche. Locating that niche and evaluating his achievements and shortcomings throws extremely revealing light on the methodological situation in contemporary Sprachlogik and logical semantics at large. In this note, I can only touch on some of the features of Geach’s thought and its methodological backdrop. I begin with a few general observations.
