Arctic Instrumentation Workshop Proceedings Held at University of Washington Pack Forest on December 4-6, 1991

Abstract : The GUTS workshop provided a successful forum for communication and laid the groundwork for future cooperation on scientific investigations. The ice mechanics, acoustics, optics and oceanography sections in this report clearly define the scientific issues and assess the utility of the GUTS platform. In addition, they provide rudimentary plans for future goals and development. Much of the desired ground truth information is common to all the studies discussed; thus measurements and instrumentation to obtain this information is of primary importance. 'What needs to be measured' is identified, and we conclude that most of the proposed measurements would be viable from the GUTS platform. However, many of the measurements discussed have not been tried before, particularly non-invasive measurements of ice properties.
