In order to simulate transient phenomena of hydraulic transmission lines with high accuracy, we are usually forced to adopt a mathematical model of a distributed parameter system, in which the effect of frequency-dependent friction is taken into account. This exact model, however, is considerably troublesome to developing a simulation program, and too time-consuming to be suited to simulation. The purpose of this study is to propose a fast and convenient method for the simulation of transmission lines. The method is based on a technique for formulating rational polynomial approximations for both Bessel functions and hyperbolic functions.
