Dynamic response of a rigid strip on an elastic half-space

Abstract Numerical results for the vertical, horizontal and rocking vibrations of a rigid strip foundation on the surface of the elastic half-space are presented. The solutions are obtained over wider ranges of the frequency parameter than those considered hitherto. The rigid strip is infinite in one direction so that the elastic theory used is that for plane-strain. The mixed boundary-value problems, treated by superposition based on the solution for a stress-boundary-value problem, are considered for “exact” and simplified models. Elements of the dynamic interaction stiffness matrix are evaluated. Dynamic contact stress distributions at the interface between a rigid strip and the half-space are presented.
