High performance, rechargeable sintered iron electrodes—I: The effect of preparative methods and additives on the structure and performance of sintered iron electrodes

Abstract The effect of fabrication variables—starting material, compacting pressure, sintering temperature—on sintered iron electrodes is presented, together with an investigation of the factors governing the depth of discharge of these electrodes. Over 60% depth of discharge is achievable in optimized electrodes, operating at 50°C, 30% KOH electrolyte (containing 50 g/l of LiOH).
