Design considerations for a state level energy database management system

Abstract At the state-level, the database management systems (DBMS) are receiving considerable attention as the energy information demands of polyciymakers expand. Heretofore, the vast majority of databases used for state-level energy analysis were maintained on secondary storage devices in the form of “flat” files with access limited to batch processing with the consequent time delays and the expense of programmers' involvement. With the advent of inexpensive, easy-to-use DBMS's for the microcomputer, powerful query and report generation capabilities are now in the hands of the user with little assistance required from the programmer. This paper describes the implementation of such a DBMS in a real time energy management environment.
