EEC COMPARISON TESTING OF FOUR SIDE IMPACT DUMMIES. BIOMECHANICS OF IMPACTS IN ROAD ACCIDENTS. PROCEEDINGS OF THE SEMINAR HELD IN BRUSSELS, 21-23 MARCH 1983

Four prototype side-impact dummies, the APROD 82, DOT/SID, MIRA and ONSER 50, were extensively tested in a comparison programme commissioned by the EEC within the framework of the biomechanics programme phase IV. Seventeen different test conditions, ranging from localized impacts to full scale car-to-car collisions, were defined resulting in a total of 580 tests. The base for the evaluation were previously established EEVC requirements together with most recent cadaver data. Five European laboratories tested the dummies in a joint effort, coordinated by TNO. This paper presents an evaluation of the four dummy prototypes and a proposal for updated specifications for a regulations dummy. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 286949.
