Skirting SLR’s language trap: reframing the ‘systematic’ vs ‘traditional’ literature review opposition as a continuum

I was pleased to be invited to comment on Boell and CecezKecmanovic’s paper on Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR). Not only do I find the JIT debates very valuable in that they encourage reflection on our practices as IS researchers, but I also found that this particular paper highlighted a distinction between systematic and traditional literature reviews that had not quite entered by consciousness yet. As such, I learned a lot from engaging with the authors’ arguments, as well as reading some of the literature on this topic. I would therefore like to thank the authors for prompting this thought-provoking and important debate.
