Polarisation-independent phase modulator using electro-optic polymer

A novel polarisation-independent phase modulator based on the electro-optic polymer P2ANS is proposed. The optical axis direction is controlled by utilising a 45/spl deg/-off poling configuration for polarisation-independent operation. The proposed device consists of the two sections, the optical axes of which are orthogonal to each other. The measured V/sub x/ for both TE and TM modes is 70 V at 1.55 /spl mu/m, which may be reduced by using a good electro-optic polymer.
