Numerical Optimization of Thermal Behaviour of Machine Tools

Summary The paper presents a concept of optimizining thermal properties of machine-tools based on separate optimization of drive systems and supporting structure that can be performed with 18M PC/AT. A mathematical model of an object is given which can be used for finding power losses, temperature and thermal displacement distributions. This FEM model served a basis for determining goal functions and limiting conditions. A description of an effective multicriterial optimization procedure is given. A working example of optimizing a machining centre headstock is reported.
