Influence of partial shading on the power output of a solar cell and a PV module

In this work, we present a comprehensive analysis of partial shading onsolar cells and a specific shade pattern for PV modules. We design a shade scenario to represent a real shade condition that might be caused due to a pole near the installation site. This shade covers multiple cells in different by-pass-diode protected sections which significantly drops the power output of an array. We evaluated the individual impact of shading for cells in series and parallel connection to understand how it scales to a commercial PV module connected in series and parallel. We obtained that this shade scenario provokes a power loss up to 70% in the worst case. Consequently, this kind of shades compromises the electrical performance of a PV system.
