AnInnovative Reconfigurable Reflection-Type PhaseShifter forDual BandWLAN Applications

This paper presentsan innovative reconfigurable reflection-type phaseshifter fordualband WLAN applications. Thedevice allows anindependent choice ofthephaseshifts forboththetwoWLAN bands, employing a quadrature hybrid dualbandcoupler, twodiplexers andfour reflective loads. A full 3600phaseshifter prototype hasbeen realized inmicrostrip technology, thereflective loadsbeing realized through eight varactors, whosecapacitances arevaried through twodifferent biasing networks. Measured results show goodperformance intermsofreturnloss, insertion lossand excellent isolation between thetwoWLAN bands, confirming thefeasibility oftheproposed architecture andits applications to dualbandsmartantenna systems.
