Coalescence of gas bubbles in aqueous solutions of inorganic electrolytes

Measurements of average bubble size in a bubble column have been taken by means of a photographic method. The liquid phase was constituted by an aqueous solution of an electrolyte and the distributor was a porous plate. A number of different electrolytes have been used and the superficial gas velocity has been varied between 0·1 and 1·5 cm/sec. A discussion is made of the coalescence phenomena which occur near the distributor and a correlation is attempted which relates the average bubble diameter to the gas flow rate and to a group, G, of the electrolyte properties.
