Anti islanding technique for grid connected residential solar inverter system

Photovoltaic (PV) systems or solar inverters are now-a-days a part of inevitable power generation systems across the globe and they satisfy the energy demand and solve the power crisis in energy market. Many researchers are focusing on the design of power converters used in PV system, control strategies and PV panel designs in order to improve the efficiency of grid connected PV inverters. However, very limited literatures only focused into protection of solar inverters at the grid side. This paper describes the technique to protect the solar inverter during islanding situations or power disconnect of solar inverter from the grid. Power systems shall be applied anti islanding techniques in order to avoid the power delivery from the inverter during utility grid power failures so that unwanted short circuits and fire hazards would be avoided. An anti-islanding algorithm with designed flowchart and simulation results are presented in this paper to validate the proposed methodology.
