Experiment and Theory

The finite distortional deformation generalization described in this monograph, a generalization which is applicable to both polycrystal and single crystal, is a stage III resolved shear stress, resolved shear strain phenomenon. In proposing atomistic explanations for this behavior considerable care must be exercised when directly or indirectly extrapolating the atomistic concepts and conclusions from stage I or stage II theory and experiment to this stage III region of complex slip which until very recently has received relatively little theoretical attention.
