Words, ideas, and things, and the sometimes incredibly complicated interactions of these aspects of intellectual activity, or for that matter, of any old activity, present complexities which certainly do not diminish with our growing understanding. From the very beginning of extrauterine life, not only the incessant bombardment with innumerable stimuli but sorting them and reacting to them pose problems of vast scope and complexity.
