Directed Gain Bandwidth Enhancement in Patch/Slot Hybrid Antenna

Wideband antenna with a low profile and high gain is desired for portable device such as mini base station. In this paper, we propose a wideband antenna using a hybrid mode method. Based on an elliptical patch and elliptical slot, three modes are excited simultaneously in the interested band. A broadband operation can be realized together with an enhanced antenna gain in a compact structure. The size of the radiator is $\pmb{60} \ \mathbf{mm} \times \ 50 \mathbf{mm}$ and the profile of the antenna is 10 mm $\pmb{(0.13\lambda _{0})}$. The simulation validates the feasibility and demonstrates the bandwidth is 55.25% from 2.98 GHz to 5.19 GHz with a minimum gain of 9.29 dBi. The method can be utilized for improving the antenna performance.
