Dealing with the Practical Problem

For organizations that find themselves approaching the horizons of the unthinkable and the impossible, two generic strategies are available: either (i) measures can be taken to diminish or mitigate the level of threat (Figure 4), or (ii) measures can be taken to extend the available resources and/or to optimize the organization’s resource utilization capacity (Figure 5). In practice, these strategies will almost always be blended in some way or another, but we will analyse them here separately at first in the interest of clarity.
