A novel multi-input DC/DC converter with a general power management strategy for grid connected hybrid PV/FC/battery system

This paper presents a novel multi-input DC/DC converter which is suitable for grid connected hybrid power systems. The hybrid power system consists of photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC) and battery systems. Using the presented multi-input converter, the maximum available power of the PV panels can be extracted and the FC output power settings can be adjusted. In addition, charging/discharging of the battery can be controlled. In order to supply the load optimally, a general power management strategy is employed. Moreover, the hybrid system can provide reactive power to the grid to improve the voltage profile of the bus. Model based predictive current control scheme is used to control the grid connected system. Simulation results by MATLAB/Simulink software are provided in details to verify the operation of the presented power system. Simulation results indicate the performance and the feasibility of the presented converter.
