SIP simulation for urban microcells

The propagation simulation developed here is proposed to give insights, qualitative and quantitative information on radio coverage characteristics in urban microcell environments. The simulation is based on modeling the radio wave propagation using the Spectral Incremental Propagation (SIP) procedure. The geometry considered in this study consists of a rectangular layout of avenues intersecting with streets. The transmitter antenna height is well below the roof line of the surrounding buildings so that diffraction over the roofs can be neglected. The simulation results are compared with some published measurements. The expected guiding phenomenon along avenues and streets is demonstrated. For examples, similarly to measurements reported in the literature, the simulation results show peaks at intersections, on streets parallel to the street containing the transmitter.
