Abstract : According to the Air Force FY 87 Report to Congress, 'low-intensity conflicts will probably be the most pervasive threat to free world security for the remainder of the century'. Most military members are uninformed and lack a basic understanding required to command and manage in this low-intensity environment. This research report is directed at the field grade military officer. It will provide a brief definition and review of the history of low- intensity conflict. The purpose is to help the reader formulate ideas on how the military should train and posture to prepare for the conflicts of the future.
