Improved Damped Quadrature SOGI Control algorithm for Solar PV-Hydro Battery Based Microgrid

In this paper, an IDQ-SOGI (Improved Damped Quadrature Second Order Generalized Integrator) based control algorithm is implemented for energy management and power quality improvement in standalone microgrid. The IDQ-SOGI based control algorithm provides the VSC switching pulses in order to counter the neutral current and regulates the AC bus voltage. Moreover, it also ensures that even under unbalanced loading condition, the generator currents remain balanced and sinusoidal and it is used to provide reactive power compensation and harmonics mitigation. The DC bus voltage is regulated through the bi-directional DC-DC converter (BDC). The BDC is also used to reduce the voltage rating of the storage battery and safeguards it from the power transients at the DC-bus and second harmonic in charging /discharging current. However, a solar PV array is directly connected across the DC bus. Instead of using a boost converter, the proposed microgrid uses bi-directional DC-DC converter of a storage battery for MPPT of solar PV array. The prototype is developed and tested under various dynamic conditions.
