Fuzzy handling of industrial objectives in performance indicators

Abstract This study concerns the expression of the industrial objectives with the aim of evaluating their realization by the so-called perfonnance indicators. Such objectives can have many different expressions in accordance with the semantics that is associated to them. Indeed they can be expressed with uncertainty and/or vagueness, and be satisfied with more or less flexibility. By using the fuzzy subset theory, the proposed fomalism allows the handling of the different types of semantics of the considered objectives, leading thus to consequences on the choice of the evaluation mechanism.
