The radiological diagnosis of Strongyloides stercoralis enteritis.

Abstract The radiological diagnosis of Strongyloides stercoralis enteritis based on a series of 18 patients is discussed. Plain films of the abdomen in patients with acute symptoms and nothing to suggest the possible diagnosis of strongyloidiasis on first examination show evidence of small bowel dilatation and fluid levels. A clinical diagnosis of small bowel obstruction was made and laparotomies were performed in some cases. It has been shown that the probable underlying mechanism of the duodenal obstruction is a combination of an edematous mesentery and dilated mesenteric vessels.
