Stochastic Resonance in Multi-Threshold Systems Based on Mutual Information

Based on mutual information,a study is made on stochastic resonance of the multi-dimensional signal in multi-threshold systems, under four representative noises. When the input signal is supra-threshold,mutual information monotonically decrease as the noise intensity increases, the performance of multi-threshold systems is always deteriorated by noise. However, when the input signal is sub-threshold,mutual information first increase and then decline as the noise intensity increases, appropriate amount of noise can improve the performance, resulting in stochastic resonance. The efficacy of SR decreases and the optimal noise becomes large as the threshold increases. These results indicate that stochastic resonance may exist in multi-threshold systems and are of certain robustness for noises. The application of stochastic resonance will be extended in multidimensional signal and information processing.
