Adaptive Sliding Observer with Binary Control for Induction Motor Drives

The field oriented control methods have been used for design techniques in the variable speed drives of induction motor. This paper describes a design method of the adaptive sliding observer with binary control which includes the rotor flux and speed estimations for induction motor drives. The sliding observer based on the variable structure control theory has been known to ensure the stability of the identifier and be applied for the method of the optimal pole assignment to keep an insensitivity of the variations of the rotor resistance. To reduce the chattering on the sliding surface in sliding observer, binary control scheme which has main advantages such as the absence of high-frequency chattering and the finite gains is applied in this paper. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the modified adaptive sliding observer proposed here for the induction motor drives.
