An Empirical Research of Improving Notes-Taking Ability in Listening by Language Chunks Teaching

Note-taking helps turn the sound information in short-term memory to written one and thus makes up the shortage of memory capacity as a means of external storage.Language chunk is not only the important basis of selective notice in the process of note-taking but cuts down the sources required for information processing in listening comprehension.Based on the two theories,namely chunks approach and language information processing,the writer carried out an empirical study to cultivate the students' chunks awareness and use of chunks strategies so as to improve note-taking ability in the process of listening.Research results show that language chunk teaching can obviously promote students' understanding of listening discourse and chunk distinguishing ability,and thus increase the speed of processing and noting information,the ways of note-taking are more variable as well,therefore ultimately improve the efficiency of note-taking.
