Formation of uniform colloidal iron (III) oxides in ethylene glycol-water solutions

The aging of ferric chloride in ethylene glycol-water mixtures in the presence of chloride and phosphate ions has been carried out at 100 °C. The morphology and the structure of the resulting ferric (hydrous) oxide colloidal particles obtained under various conditions were evaluated by scanning and transmission electron microscopy and by X-ray diffraction analysis.
