Sound speed profile in ocean inverted by using travel time

The sound speed profile in the ocean has important influence on sound propagation in the medium.The sound speed profile in the ocean was inverted by using travel time.The experimental data were used for the study.The sound speed profile was described by empirical orthogonal functions.A genetic algorithm was used to search the optimum solution.The methods of quickly calculating travel time based on ray theory were developed in order to improve efficiency of inversion algorithm.The experimental data were used to invert sound speed profiles in the experimental sea area.The error of the calculated result was less than 2‰.The calculated result was consistent to the sound speed profile measured.
