Integration in hierarchical structures for batch process operations

Abstract This paper presents an application of a recent methodology for the automatic transfer of information among different decision making levels in the operation of flexible manufacturing plants. The value that integration adds to the performance of a hierarchical decision making structure is discussed. The main aspects of a single modelling approach to ease integration and a software prototype under current development are also analyzed. In particular, results from a recent extension of the proposal for deriving optimal operating procedures in the event of a breakdown in batch plants are shown on a semiconductor fab case study.
