Helical chain configuration of isotactic PMMA LB films observed by atomic force microscopy

Abstract The molecular configuration of isotactic PMMA Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films was investigated with atomic force microscopy (AFM). AFM images of the isotactic PMMA LB films, transferred at the surface pressure of 15 mN/m, show a closely packed well ordered arrangement with helical configurations. The appearance of the AFM images and the width indicate that the transformation at the surface pressure of 8 mN/m corresponds to the formation of single strand helix.
