Size reduction of UWB antennas with performance constraints

Size reduction of ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna structures with taking into account matching, efficiency, and radiation pattern constraints is considered. We discuss design trade-offs between the minimum attainable antenna size and its electrical and field properties. The best possible trade-offs are obtained using rigorous numerical optimization of all geometry parameters of the structure at hand. Two examples of UWB monopole antennas are provided for the sake of illustration.
