Educational Game For Training Spatial Ability Using Tangram Puzzle

Spatial ability can be categorized as the ability that is in the realm of psychology where this ability becomes a reference for insiders entering a job or profession. High spatial ability is necessary for those who are work at computer-graphic, engineers, and architects. Tangram puzzle is a game that comes from China and consists of several pieces of basic geometry shapes and arranged to be another form. Tangram is known to be effective in training geometry reasoning skills of various ages. There is a significant effect on learning geometry on students’ performance in spatial ability tasks. So, this paper proposes the design and implementation of a mobile game that can be used for training spatial ability in interesting and fun ways through tangram puzzle. It developed using ADDIE approach which is consist of five steps such as analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. There are two evaluations including functional and non-functional evaluations. The functional evaluations used the black-box method, while the non-functional evaluation used a questionnaire of 30 randomly selected users regardless of their background. The results show that 93,3% of the users said that the game is easy to use and 83,3% said easy to play. Then 86,7% of them mentioned that the game is interesting. In addition, all users agree if this game can be used to train identify, classify and analyze the shape. Therefore, the design of the tangram puzzle has a potential to use as an educational game for training spatial ability.
