The distribution and stratigraphical significance of the marine bivalve Saxicavella jeffreysi Winckworth in the Quaternary deposits of Scotland

Synopsis The marine bivalve Saxicavella jeffreysi Winckworth, which is believed to be widely distributed at the present time, but scarce, is shown to occur commonly in some Scottish Quaternary deposits. Its apparent confinement to Post-glacial strata, deposited in temperate conditions, suggests that it is a useful stratigraphical and environmental indicator.
