Recent Advances in HVDC and UHVDC Transmission In the high-voltage dc (HVDC) transmission field, there have been recent developments for industry contributors, Munich, Germany-based Siemens, and Zurich, Switzerlandbased ABB. In addition to discussing the move from HVDC to ultrahigh-voltage dc (UHVDC), we investigate developments in thyristors and bimode integrated gate transistors (BIGTs).
